A Christmas tree with candles glows quietly in the house as children and husband sit here and there munching on foil-wrapped Christmas chocolates, heads and feet in laps, hearts warm as the light that gleams; every now and then a word, a decoration that was forgotten gets placed upon the branches, a joke, a short quarrel, a sigh.

The men of the house watch over the tree lest it catch fire until every last candle has burned out ... the younger sleeping vigilantly on the sofa under a hand-knit blanket.

'Cindy Lou Who' standing gazing at the tree is dear. I love it. Beautiful.

That's such a sweet post, Allison. The photos are beautiful. Oh, to be where you are just for a few moments... would be delightful. :)

What a beautiful post. I love the bottom picture. My mother talked about lighting the candles on the tree and everyone watching closely in case the tree were to start on fire. They only lit it for a few minutes in the evening.

Wow! Real candles on a real tree! Glad you have your watchers making sure nothing catches that shouldn't. I agree with the comment from Linda above - your little one looks like Cindy Lou Who from Whoville. Those cheeks and that sweet, innocent earnestness... God bless you and yours!

I love your beautiful old fashioned Christmas tree with its lovely simplicity. The candles and ornaments are perfect. That is a tree I would love to have in my home.
A touching photo of childhood innocence, Allison. I love your words!

be well, be happy,

You make my heart heavy followed with a sigh. So pretty.I made lots of cookies and two kinds of fudge, thinking of Europes star cookie lady. When I sampled my first batch, I felt it was missing something.Looking at the recipe, it was. You need baking powder and soda, plus a little salt. I sent those to school with a friend, her kids will eat anything, and they weren't real bad.I added the missing ingredients and all was well.I will get back to baking more today, starting with sugar cookie dough, toffee and carmels.

One of my favorite posts yet. The image that was created in my mind was one of warmth and love! As moms, don't we all cherish little moments like these? Wishing you many more! Carla
