There is a time at the end of the day, as I prepare the evening meal or do the dishes in preparation for bed, when a sweet meloncholy overcomes me; a pensiveness that cannot be subdued.

At these times, I pour myself a bit of harvest wine. I kick off my shoes, pull a chair up to the kitchen sink, climb the great mountain of domestic matriarchy and push open the sky light over my humble and intimate kitchen.

My Russian often finds me here, observing the moss growing on my roof, staring out across the valley, sometimes listening to the ringing of bells. He has learned to let me be, but stays nearby, hovering in a protective ease.

I have wondered on occasion if someone else has seen my head poking out of my roof...and what that must look like! So if you ever happen upon my street, and see me there lost in an unexplainable world all my own, do call out my name! I shall pour you a glass of reverie.

How nice to have a window in the roof to look out of.

That first photo gave me vertigo, seriously. You be careful up on that sink, missie! :)

And, I'm still chuckling to myself today, amazed at all the people who think I really clean my chicken coop in a prom dress. I'm naughty that way.

What a wonderful way to end the day. It makes me think of the song "Up On the Roof." Are you familiar with that one? Carson has a window that goes out over the front porch. She quite often goes out and sits on the roof...without the glass of wine, of course! I've never tried it, but maybe now I will! :) Carla

Ooooh! I want one of those!!!!! I think on a whim (or 2) I may just climb out on to the roof and sit up there....depending on how much reverie I had consumed I guess;)

Seriously....I love it. Your home looks cozy. Feels peaceful....

A very different view , but a stance observing the world around you without much interference.I had a home where we sat on the roof a lot, listening to the world around us.

Thanks for sharing that little escape with us...

That is really neat (and a bit dangerous!) I think you at least need to invest in a step ladder! I know how dangerous climbing on the sink can be (I'm too short so climb there to reach stuff). I can SO envision your pretty head sticking up out of the roof as people wonder "what the...??" :)

Nice toes. :) Something about being on (or through, in your case) a roof is very soothing. I'm glad you can escape a bit!

P.S. - You have to file US taxes?! That's just ridiculous.

This is great! I so relate..except sticking my head out the roof:) (I would if I could!) A glass of wine & a breath of fresh air. A deserving reward at the end of the day :)

It's oddly comforting to know I am not the only person who climbs atop her kitchen counters in bare feet and with the help of a chair. If we had all the money we wanted, the first thing I'd do is build a rooftop deck to see the views. Thanks for sharing!

No chance of climbing on my roof it is very slanted. Enjoy your night air up on the roof.

Kestufais? Rien! J'avais juste besoins de ça :D
Folle, je disais, nesspa?
