When the Swiss complete a multimillion franc tunnel, they celebrate in style.

And before anyone drives their cars down the freshly paved road, people come from all over to bike, scoot, walk, skate or just eat a sausage on the new road.

You meet friends about halfway through and stop to talk in the freezing dampness.

And a free ride in a rolling car effectively scares you about what would happen if you were to violate any traffic rules.

Well its about time, right Alli.. finally finished and no more going around the mountain. I bet everyone is jumping for joy. I remember when you first posted about this tunnel being built.. ever so slowly.

How neat is that!

Illinois redid some of the toll booths on 94/294...Can you imagine what it would be like if they did this after each one was finished?

Very cool -- I would not be able to get in the *rolling car* however. I have vertigo. :)

Wow! Such a hoot-a-nanny! That would never happen here. I like that it is still sunny and people are wearing shorts where you're at. I woke to the sound of pouring rain at 4:30 this morning.
Love you!

What a great wy to celebrate a roadway. You know this isn't the way it's done in the states, sadly.

Looks like fun. Don't know about the sausage but if there is ice cream I will race anyone to the end.
