The first day of December... and it is snowing. Little bare feet pattered across the floor this morning in anticipation of a calendar - the one I made thirteen years ago as my infant son nestled warmly inside me and my eldest scurried about the house.

Some years it has been filled with candy and chocolate, others with toys; one year there were tiny slips of paper with ideas of how we might do something kind for someone else. But this year, it's Playmobile ... a tiny piece for every day.

And their enthusiasm will not run short for the full twenty-five days! They will wait, in earnest, for each bag to be opened as I wait, I hope in equal earnest, for a Gift to come to me... to my heart and to my mind.

We used to do those Advent Calendars, the ones with the surprise when you opened up the window each day. Every year when I came home with one, they could hardly wait for December 1st to come. But, I wish I had done something handmade for them.

You are a breath of fresh are and a blessing in the lives of your children, Allison.
In spite of passed childhood memories you have emerged as a special human being to those lives you have so tenderly touched, my friend.

Hugs and Happiness,
Pam

That is really neat! But I'll have to look up Playmobile (just like you had to look up Kingfishers!) :)

What a sweet calendar. We had the same one every year with little tabs you opened to reveal the day -- no little presents inside. With four girls in the house, I'm sure that was not an accident. :) Hoping the gift you are anticipating arrives in good order. :)

Oh my favorite-Advent Calendars:)) I almost forgot to give mine to the kids this day...we just do the chocolate door ones. (I don't have one for me though- Chocolate! What am I thinking?;))

To answer your questions on my post...1: No...that is my in-laws barn across the road. It is where my kids go to do their chores twice a day. I live right next door:) The geese were flying over my home, the tree is looking over the Grand Canyon when i visited there in April, and the sunrise is over the ocean on a trip I took in the spring:)))

Oh happy day to you! Enjoy your snow and counting down :)

That is a GREAT advent calendar. When I was little we just got the little paper package ones from the store on occasion. I should do one like yours with my boys.

Also, I think you're completely right about us being the ones to make the celebrations. It is a lot of work! Maybe that's why I haven't been very motivated to do anything.

Have a beautiful day!

I like that you don't put the same thing in every year. When your children are married they will be fighting to see you gets to keep this hand made with love treasure.

What a creative and wonderful calendar. I have seen them in stores but I think this one is the best filled with treats and made with love.

Quel stress j'ai eu avec mes trois calendrier le mardi soir. Et le lendemain j'ai pu entendre depuis mon lit de petites mains qui déballaient le petit paquet. Ah, je voudrais être un enfant du 1er au 24 décembre :)
