How, you ask, could I not like the alps? Let me count the ways!

I will give you that they are majestic, and spectacular and a wonder of the world in their own right... but they strangle me. I drive toward them and cower. They rise up grey and cold and pretentious, ready to pounce like a jaguar, to suffocate like a boa, or to crush like the razor-sharp teeth of a great white shark.

I sit back, sigh, and long for a prairie breeze.

(I've waxed melodramatic, haven't I!?) ;)

I would be scared to drive a car there:)

Our little "mountains" here can be pretty scary driving through, especially in the winter. But, I do love them. I can understand a little bit how you feel tho.

Not ever having lived anywhere near mountains, this is interesting to me. Prairies aren't scary, unless they're on fire. ;)

Oh, and you will be entered into the giveaway, Allison. I decided to throw caution to the wind and go international this time. Good luck!

Oh NO! You have not waxed melodramatic!
I get the EXACT same feeling when I head out to the coast and spend a few days surrounded by their (not so majestic) "mountains". As beautiful as they are...I long to be back to open land and sky.
BUT....you do HAVE DRAMATIC and RUGGED beauty to behold every day. Often times all I see is cattle and plains of snow;)

Funny I felt that way about Hawaii. I felt suffocated by the ocean with no way off the islands during my week there. I need to be able to drive away towards other sights. Have a wonderful day!

Very interesting, dearie. Stifled and hemmed in. I think you need to move to Texas... :)

That openess has a nice feel. I lived in the mountains, and enjoyed them for a few years, but after a bit, they lost their drama. Part of the beauty here is the people who will talk with you, the friendly wave out in the country and the changes of scenery you can find with just a drive.I always put ocean and/or mountains in my vacations, but always return home.Sending you a kind thought from the prairie, on that gentle prarie breeze.

Our mountains pale in size to the Alps but I sure would love to climb around in them. And boy is that valley beautiful.

The Alps just make the valley look all the more inviting! :) Carla

LOL! Well, that would make me hate them too. Being one who prefers open spaces, I totally understand.

Also - I'm glad you feel you can share on my blog! It gave me a good laugh this morning. :D Hope your daughter is feeling better.

I could drive through them no problem. It would be the drive up them that would scare the pants off me. We drove up Mt Washington in NH and I started to cry. The road is very narrow. Beautiful photo.

An insightful thought, Allison. I love the mountains but if I were surrounded like you are I think I would feel the same way.

be well, be happy,
Pam
