As we sped toward Chicago that night, marvelling at the misfortune of a bazillion bugs killed on our windshield over the course of a mere three days, we found ourselves quiet, tired, but resisting the ride home. Our dream trip was coming to an abrupt end... the little world we'd created inside the truck where mother and daughter transform into mischievous allies might fizzle the minute we pull into the driveway.

One month later, I watch my daughter for signs that our complicity could still be intact. There are the ups and downs of adolescence, the stress of school, the strain of work. There is the never-ending battle for attention in a family of six. But when it all comes down to it and we find ourselves alone in the kitchen of an evening, she making her traditional cup of tea and I tidying up, our eyes meet and lock... and sometimes they gleam and smile.

It is still there. Thank God.

So...where are we going next?

Know all too well about those attention battles and the ups and downs of adolescence. I think it's easier when they were in diapers, it was definitely less work ;) I'm glad you got to spend the time with your daughter and I can't wait to see where you go next.

That closeness will never go away. The memories may fade a bit, but the feeling will forever tie you. What a wonderful thing, the love between a mother and daughter. I still hold tight to mine even though my mom's been gone for 6 years now...

Wait until her friends mean more than you. I have wishes mine never grew so fast, but the adult life is fun to see your life often mirrored.

Oh I can so relate to this.
It's HARD...this adolescent relationship thing.
It's tiring.
But those moments, the glances, make you realize hanging in there is worth it.
Hugs to you for today.
You aren't alone!!!

the travels move closer hearts, that's what I learned from my experiences !
the return to the house of being morally hard, but surely new adventures for the future ! :)

I agree those teenage years are hard, it's nice when they're little and you know what's going on and how to protect them.
